Directed Maguire in Seabiscuit and Pleasantville

Gary Ross, who directed Tobey Maguire in Seabiscuit and Pleasantville, has come aboard to rewrite the script for Spider-Man 4, reports Variety.

Sam Raimi will again direct the Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios project that will go into production early next year.

The Spider-Man 4 script was originally written by James Vanderbilt, and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire.

The fourth installment is scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

James Vanderbilt returning for more sequels

Variety reports that Sony Pictures has engaged screenwriter James Vanderbilt to write Spider-Man 5 and Spider-Man 6.

Production on Spider-Man 4 will begin early next year for a May 6, 2011 release. Vanderbilt wrote the first draft of the script for the fourth installment. David Lindsay-Abaire was brought on board to do a rewrite, and Gary Ross is now rewriting that script.

The trade adds that director Sam Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but executives at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the fifth and sixth movies, which have an interconnected storyline.

It's unclear whether Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will be back for #5 & 6, but if they aren't, Vanderbilt's script would be the blueprint for a franchise reboot.

Has made cameos in the first three Spidey films

At the premiere for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on Saturday, Bruce Campbell told Access Hollywood that Spider-Man 4 will start shooting in January 2010 and that he'll have a larger part:

The actor, who has a long relationship with director Sam Raimi via his lead role in the "Evil Dead" trilogy, made memorable cameos in the first three "Spider-Man" films.

However, he may have a bigger role this time around. Bruce told Access that in the next installment in the superhero franchise, he’s been told he has a major part – but didn’t yet know anything about his character.

Columbia Pictures has scheduled the fourth installment for a May 6, 2011 release.

he's been hinted at Mysterio for a while now, so that's who he'll play . as for his jobs he shows up in odd places so it no wonder you don't remember. I have to relook them up.

PostPosted: Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:11 pm    Post subject: Spider-Man 4 to be Released on IMAX May 5, 2011! Reply with quote

Simultaneously with the film's worldwide release

IMAX Corporation and Columbia Pictures today announced that the highly-anticipated action-adventure Spider-Man 4, will be released to IMAX(R) theatres simultaneously with the film's worldwide release on May 5, 2011. The fourth installment of the successful "Spider-Man" franchise, based on the Marvel Comicbook character, will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience. The film will be distributed by Columbia Pictures domestically and by Sony Pictures Releasing International overseas.

To date, the "Spider-Man" motion pictures have generated more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office receipts.

"The last two 'Spider-Man' releases have been available in IMAX theaters, and we're very much looking forward to our return to a wider IMAX theatre network with this exciting new chapter in the continuing adventures of Spider-Man," said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Releasing. "The addition of so many new IMAX locations will give even more fans of Spider-Man an opportunity to experience the action and adventure in a unique way."

"'Spider-Man' continues to be one of the world's most popular motion picture franchises, and we are very excited to include the latest chapter as part of our 2011 slate," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Our network has grown significantly and we continue to roll-out new theatres virtually every week, giving more moviegoers the opportunity to experience the movie in IMAX."

"We're so excited to once again work with our friends at Columbia Pictures, Sony and Marvel to bring this beloved superhero back to IMAX theatres," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "The 'Spider-Man' franchise has been so important to the growth of our network and fan base over the years and we're certainly looking forward to re-teaming with the entire cast and production team to bring this next chapter to moviegoers worldwide."

Spider-Man 4 will reunite director Sam Raimi with stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. The screenplay is currently being adapted by Gary Ross. Producers are Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, Todd Black and Grant Curtis. Executive producers are Stan Lee, Todd Hallowell and Josh Donen.

The IMAX release will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

What's the status of the fourth film?

MTV talked to director Sam Raimi, who says he's hoping to start shooting Spider-Man 4 the first week of March 2010 for a May 5, 2011 release.

Raimi added that Gary Ross is doing a rewrite of the script using notes Raimi gave him, a production designer has started designing the sets and environments, and Scott Stokdyk is back on board on his fourth Spidey film as visual effects supervisor.

Raimi said that no casting has taken place--other than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst--but that they are starting to think about that now.

Who will counter Peter Parker's growth?

While he naturally wouldn't reveal who the villain is in Spider-Man 4, director Sam Raimi told MTV what their thinking is behind the villain they will choose:

"What we're trying to do right now is really understand the journey Peter is going to go on this time and have the villain maybe be a counter to that growth, something that he has to overcome," Raimi said. "Or maybe he has to grow in a way to overcome the villain, because there always seem to be stories of coming of age, of a young man growing up and learning things about life, so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain—and we're trying this right now; we're trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict."

"I think having so many villains detracted from the experience"

Director Sam Raimi was interviewed in the print edition of DVD & Blu-ray Review (via the Coventry Telegraph) and was asked about Spider-Man 4.

Asked about complaints that there were too many villains in Spider-Man 3, he said: "I think having so many villains detracted from the experience. I would agree with the criticism."

Raimi added that he had learned some new lessons and storytelling tricks from his last film, Drag Me to Hell. "I think I've learned about the importance of getting to the point and the importance of having limitations, and I'm hoping to take that into a production where I'm actually allowed to explore with more of the tools to pull it off with a little more splendor.

"I hope I don't lose that edge that I've just found. That would be my approach to 'Spider-Man 4': to get back to the basics."

But will Dr. Curt Connors get all scaley?

Ever since Dylan Baker first appeared in Spider-Man 2 as Empire State University professor Dr. Curt Connors, people have been buzzing about whether we might ever see him turn into Spider-Man's scaliest foe The Lizard. Unfortunately, we don't have the answer to that question just yet, but UGO had people at the Walter Reade screening of Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat last night where actor Dylan Baker confirmed he would be returning as Connors for Spider-Man 4, when asked about it during a post-screening Q & A. He didn't go into details about how big or small his role might be in the fourth installment, although it seemed like it would be another "background" part, rather than The Lizard taking center stage as the next Spider-Man villain.

Actresses reportedly auditioning for Felicia Hardy/Black Cat

Early last month, director Sam Raimi said that they were about to start casting for Spider-Man 4, but we have yet to hear any official announcements of new talent coming on board. We knew Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst were going to be back, and since then, Dylan Baker revealed that he'll return as Dr. Curt Connors.

Now, according to Mania, actresses are auditioning for the role of villain Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, and the site says that Rachel McAdams (upcoming Sherlock Holmes) is a frontrunner for the role. Mania adds that they are also casting for a male villain, which would mean we're looking at two villains for the fourth installment. None of this is confirmed, of course.

http://www.mania.com/spiderman-4-villain-revealed_article_118760.html

In the meantime, fans have pointed to The Observer where actress Romola Garai (Atonement) has a column in which she wrote the following:

"Love is at the root of everything good that has ever happened and will happen." This phrase swam into focus as I moved up the escalator at Oxford Circus tube on Tuesday morning on my way to put myself "on tape" for a part in Spider-Man 4. This is the acting equivalent of the London Marathon in that it's important to try your best as long as you understand that you aren't going to win.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/theobserver/2009/nov/08/my-week-romola-gara

Might she also be going for the Felicia Hardy role? We won't know for sure until we start hearing official casting news from Sony.

Spider-Man 4 is coming to theaters on May 5, 2011

With red hair?

SpoilerTV has posted an interesting casting call for Spider-Man 4.

According to the site, the production is looking for a "2 or 3 year old boy to play 2 year old, Caucasian with RED HAIR, an adorable toddler with an engaging personality, on set experience preferred. IDENTICAL TWINS ONLY."

We don't want to jump to any conclusions, but the "Red Hair" mentioned is certainly interesting. Stay tuned for whether this will be significant at all.

The fourth installment is targeted for a May 5, 2011 release.

Well I can only see 2 options for this casting call either Peter and Mj are going to have a kid or the more likely solution the guy who becomes carnage is going to be in the movie.

McAdams Debunks Spider-Man 4 Rumor

Not up for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat?

Last week, it was reported that Rachel McAdams was a frontrunner for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, but she tells Entertainment Weekly it's not true:

“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” the actress, who will next be seen in the Dec. 25 action-adventure tentpole Sherlock Holmes, tells EW. “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.” A rep for Sony Pictures concurs: “It’s an Internet rumor, as so many things are these days.”

That may be true, but there's been many cases of actors or actresses denying they've landed a role in a film, only to be announced a little later as being officially attached. We'll have to wait and see when official casting announcements are made.

in even further news .

Julia Stiles Also Auditions for Spider-Man 4

Are they trying for the Black Cat role?

UGO has learned that Julia Stiles has also auditioned for a role in Spider-Man 4. This follows the rumor that Rachel McAdams had auditioned (she said she didn't) and Romola Garai did put herself on tape for a role, but she believes she won't get the role.

The site doesn't know which role Stiles talked to a casting company in New York for. Reports say that these actresses are trying to land the Felicia Hardy/Black Cat role, but that hasn't officially been confirmed.

What we do know at this point is that Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Dylan Baker are officially returning for the fourth film, scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2011.

Add another name to the list

It looks like we can add another name to the list of actresses who are reading for a new role in Spider-Man 4. Deadline Hollywood reports:

While Sony Pictures insists no decisions have been made, sources tell me that the producers have approached Anne Hathaway to star in the film. Maybe you experts have an idea what she'll play? All I know is that she's wanted for a starring role, and she won't replace Kirsten Dunst who's also cast in the Spidey fourquel.

Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai have previously been rumored to be auditioning for possibly Felicia Hardy/Black Cat. Will Sony Pictures start making official casting announcements soon? Stay tuned..

I still think Scarlett johansson should have been black cat. oh well she's black widow now. I still think it was for the same reason Jessica Alba was made sue Richards it was to appeal to the older man mid life crisis age has to have a younger thing. but she is a good actress. but she should have been black cat. I like Hathaway though. not sure i see her as black cat.

The Black Cat rumor for Spider-man 4 has gone into overdrive for the past few weeks, with lots of unconfirmed reports flying around online. Now, Spider-Man himself, Tobey Maguire, weighs in!

From MTV Splash Page.

"People tell me about [the rumors], because I'm involved in the project — so yeah, I hear things," Maguire told MTV News during a press event for his upcoming film "Brothers."

"Mostly, it's just kind of interesting," he added. "I don't pay too much mind to it. I'm just glad people are talking about it and excited about it."

in other words he knows nothing on it.
